Presenting a report to management

Lead with the score and the level, name the two or three components behind the shortfall, and finish with what is being done and what is needed.

A structure that works

State the result: the score out of 800 and the IPC level, with the date of the assessment.
State the movement since the last assessment, if there was one, and whether it was an improvement or a decline.
Name the strongest components briefly, the programme is not starting from nothing.
Name the two or three weakest components, and say what they mean in practice rather than in points.
Present the priority actions, with owners and dates.
State what you need from leadership: a decision, a budget, or staff time.

“Is this a WHO certification?”, No. It is a self-assessment against the WHO framework, not a certification or accreditation.
“Why did the score fall?”, See “Reading a decline”; usually a more honest assessment, which is worth saying plainly.
“Who says these are the priorities?”, The gap register ranks by points lost and risk, and every entry traces to a specific indicator.

Note: Print the executive report and hand it out. It is designed to be readable without you standing next to it.

What each report section meansThe executive report runs from the facility profile and the result, through components, comparison and findings, to the recommendations and the basis of the report.
What the score meansThe score is a structured summary of the answers recorded for your programme at one point in time, comparable with your own earlier assessments.
Reading a declineA fall in score is stated as plainly as a rise; it usually means either a genuine deterioration or a more honest assessment than the last one.
